Flightplan

It was a strange feeling of alternating moods while watching this movie. The suspense, presentation and unfolding of the story was top class, but the story itself was not that powerful. So sometimes I felt it is great movie some times not so, all while watching the movie.

Movie starts with Jodie Foster visiting morgue where her dead husband's body is prepared for transport back to the US. Her daughter, who is six years old, and very innocent has no idea what is going on around her, feels scared of moving out when they were leaving to catch a plane pack home. They travel to the airport and board their flight, which also was carrying her husband's body in a casket. During this time, through a series of dialogues it is understood that Jodie is an expert professional in aircraft design. Three hours into the flight when Jodie wakes up and realizes that her daughter is missing. She raises hue and cry to find her, however, it seems that no one has even seen the child boarding. The departure gate also confirms that her daughter was not on board. Here is a very interesting situation and completely absorbing for the viewer. Director has done a marvelous job of depicting this part of the film. To me this was the high point.

The flight also had an air marshal. A sort of a on board policeman. He also alternates between the sympathy and frustration at the accusation of a child being kidnapped. The situation drags on. Those who love aerodynamics and architecture of a airplane would love this part. The complete structure of the airplane and all its various connectivities within other areas are very nicely elaborated. Eventually, till the time of landing child is not found and suddenly, you realize that the air marshal cuts a deal with the captain of the aircraft indicating Jodie as a hijacker and demands certain conditions on her behalf. This part of the twist in the story is very artificial and the story has fallen pray to the lack of imagination of the creator. So far the story was sailing so beautifully, which at this point it feels like crashing head on. Anyway, no points for guessing what happens next. Can be explained in bulleted points as well:

• Hero (heroin) does the right thing and finds her daughter
• Villain does the wrong thing and gets killed but before that reveals his earlier misdeeds.
• Smaller villain is arrested
• All good people apologize for their bad behavior
  
• Movie ends

If I were to see this movie again I would only watch the first part and imagine second part in my mind taking on a different course of ending altogether.

Do not feel like deleting the movie, but if the disk is full then this goes first.
